e36 fault code question

I have a 1221 fault code. The bentley manual tells me it is a oxygen sensor #1. Has anyone had the same code and have it not be the oxygen sensor?

This is not a direct answer to your question, but the O2 sensors do go bad on these cars rather frequently, so it is a high likelyhood that this is the case.

IS the O2 expensive? and is it easy to change? I have a 96 w/ 81k on it and the CEL light just came on..I haven't hooked it up yet but i think it is the o2.

as much as I hate to admit it I had a dealer change it. You need a special tool to get to the sensor. its not hard to find or touch but i did not have to tools to break it loose. installed about $250
