air bag sensor is bad, can i use one from a 96+ in my 95

The air bag light on my dash keeps coming on and stays on for about 2 inutes after I take off somewhere. I had a front end collision about 6 months ago and the bags never went off, I was going 25mph. THe light was staying on before that, which leads me to believe that my sensor is faulty, because the bags never went off.

Anyway, there is one from a 97 M3 on Ebay and I was wondering if it would fit in my 95? Anyone else have this trouble?

    Thanks

I'm having the same problem except that my airbag light will not turn off. My mechanic says that it is a faulty sensor in my passenger side seatbelt recepticle. It's going to cost a little over $100 to fix and I plan to do it next time I have the car in for service. Apparently this sensor going bad is a common problem.

You should have the error code read by someone with the tool so you know what is causing your light to come on before you proceed with trying to fix it.

Agreed...i have an air bag light on also..I learned to live w/ it and plan on taking care of it in the future. Defenitly get a reading of what it is before spending those bucks on a prob that might not get solved with a new sensor.

I doubt a 97 sensor would work on a 95. I dunno, maybe because we have different obd's. But this is a wild guess and stand to be corrected.

That error doesn't have any affect on the actual operation of the airbag does it?

If it is your seatbelt latch, which it probably is, then you can not use the sensor on e-bay. Get the code read before you do anything else, then you will know what part to buy.

From what i heard, if its the seatbealt malfunction, the air bag should still work.

If the light was being caused by the seatbelt recepticle, then the bags would have deployed when I hit the tree. This is what leads me to belive that it is the sensor itself.

              Just deductive reasoning...

Ouch man...maybe you hit the tree just right so the bags wouldn't have deployed (if there is a right way to hit a tree).

That's scary though. If I ever get the warning, I'm fixing it ASAP.

I don't know how fast you were going, but you need to be moving at a decent rate to have the airbag deploy.

The warning light may be completely unrelated to your accident. The seatbelt recepticle problem is a common one and maybe it just decided to konk out.

As I said originally and other behind said, "You really need to get the code read before you do anything."
