onboard computer

I currently own an white E36 M3 without the onboard computer. My friend has a 1996 328 with the onboard computer. Are the 2 the same? is there any additional wiring that is required for swapping them?

did the car originally come with one? if so it should be wired for some kind of OBC.. if anything the 8/12 button (not sure which)

If you have the 9 button one with just the check contol, you can upgrade to the 11 button one with the temp (as I did). Not sure why the 9 button one was even made for the M3, it is nice to have the temp.



If you want to upgrade to the 18 button one, it is a lot of work involved as the car is not pre-wired for it. You have to install a new stalk in the steering column, along with running a bunch of wires. If you are really interested in doing it, run a search on www.unofficialbmw.com and there may be a writeup.
