when using the so called manual shifting mode on the automatic, i dont know how to start out in first gear without having it in regular drive, if i do that its too hard to shift it into second and at the same time push the manual button ..... is this working right or am i doing something wrong....when i try to start out from a dead stop im starting out in second gear ...

I am pretty sure that I read something about manual mode. To get it to start in first you must have the manual mode switch on and in second gear (maybe asc off?) and push back on the nob, like there was a selectable first gear, and there is like a pressure switch that will kick it into first. I think that is how it works, try it and tell me if I was talking out my azz.

the best way to launch is in S mode with ASC off with a tranny chip stage 2 from dinan (if u have it) Hold down the brake and rev up to around 2200-2500 rpms and floor it while letting go of the brake.. u should launch perfect... it will take a stick shift m3 hard work to even keep up with u off the line with that kind of launch.. and it will take perfect shifting for the manual driver to catch u.. good luck

Things like this are exactly why I don't understand why some M3 people are so anti-auto. With a launch like you talked about, a higher top-end, and perfect shifting throughout - I just don't see a problem.
I'm willing to bet that if you put two M3's w/ Dinan Stage III kits (one auto, one manual) in a race, the auto would come out on top.

i totally agree with you, and plus later on if u want to go supercharged u got great gearing, meaning that u can do 160mph at just above 5k rpms.. manuals will need to swap to 6 speed to do that.. but then again for cornering and just agressive driving stick shift is of course funner and u have more feel and control of the car, but auto m3s do deserve some respect..

You are kidding me right? You've got an auto M3 and haven't put it in S? As soon as the car warms up I put it in (S)port mode.. The difference is .. super.
