Seat Belt Retainers

I recently observed that the plastic retainers of the front seat belts, located near the head of the driver and passenger, has cracks in them.



They are showing cracks that run along the length and not across.

These are factory seat belts and not aftermarket and car is 1996 M3.



Has anyone else seen this problem? I am trying to figure out whether these need to be replaced.

I just got a 96 M myself on Monday and I have been looking over the car alot and I noticed that too. But are you taking about the anchor at the B-pillar of the car? Cause mine is cracked too a lil, i'm guessing from the sun....but it is only a plastic over...underneath it is all metal...

Yup...the anchor on the B-pillar.



Good to know that there is a metal retainer inside the plastic.



I was guessing the same, as plastic on it self is not strong enough for the belt purpose BUT wanted to be sure.



The dealer was suggesting replacement of both the belts with a cost of $300!!
