    Vanos

    Hey All,

What do you know about VANOS - My car seems to be making a funny noise exactly where the vanos is ... i'm thinking it is chain guide or something.

Has anyone on the board experienced issue in this department and if so what was it and how $$$ is it going to hurt?

Thanks for all your responses in advance ...

If you pop your hood, is there this funny clicking sound?

    That's the vanos going.

Once it goes, you'll know. You'll have almost no power when you first start moving. Like you started in 2nd or something.

Not quite that bad, but along those lines.

It is really expensive to fix...we're talking like 3-4k I think, but I'll let people with more experience fill you in too.

When ur vanos go bad is there more to it than to just replace them, because I called a local dealer and he told me for new vanos it costs $278.78 for my car

madness that is not a good thing at all. It is funny cuz i restarted the car and it seemed fine - so i'm hoping it was the cold and the chain tensioner was stuck or something.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I'd love to hear some more opinions
