    Spare key/touch up paint needed

    Hey,

Anyone know where/how I can get a spare key for my 97 M? I'm also looking for some touch up paint that is the exact match?

Are these going to be dealership items or possilby bavaian autosport?

    Thanks

I doubt anywhere but the dealer can get you the key, but touch up paint you can probably get all over. It probably isn't worth the shipping though.

I would just go to the dealer for both items.

Key only at the dealer, but believe it or not, touch-up paint is a "hazardous substance" and my dealer won't even order it. A better solution anyway, IMO, is the Auto Sharp Pen:

That pen thing really works pretty good? After u put it on is there a clear coat or anything u should put on it. How long does the paint stay on for? Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I just ordered the touch up pen. Looks like they have the paint codes correct so I hope the match is close.

Been away for a long time but I'm back.

I found BMW dealer touch up paint way to expensive. Plus living in Juneau, all hazmat items come in by barge...shipping, long wait times etc.

Searched on google for BMW touch up paint and came up with several companies that sell touch up paint to match the paint code in your engine bay. Either bottle or paint pen.

I bought paint pens in the Hell Rot color and clear coat.

Once they arrived, I took about an hour and touched up all the rock chips on the hood and front spoiler, retouched the scratches left on my truck lid when someone stole my M3 badge years ago, retouched the long key scratch on my left side. I had touched these spots years ago but the touch paint I had then was not a perfect match. But this time around, I know the scratches are there but they are way less noticeable than before. On the hood almost invisble. Maybe someday I'll get the care repainted.

I can't remember the name of the company I bought the paint from but I can look if someone is interested. Shipping was cheap too like $5.

                  Company's called "PaintScratch"

                  website is www.paintscratch.com

I don't work for them so give them a look.

One thing I remember though was when I applied the base coat, I was like, "What the f**ck! It doesn't match!" I thought it was too light, but I let it dry, painted the clear coat over it and the two dried together followed with a coat of wax and the scratches are pretty much hidden.

I think even the instructions said don't just use the base coat. Most dealer touch up paints are all in one.

If you're not bold enough to try the pens, try the traditional touch up bottle with brush.

                    Cool,

I'll let you know how the paint works. I'm going to hit it with my polisher afterwards to level everything out and it should be dialed.

my experience with the dealer bottles/brushes are that they are too thick... i've used nail polish thinner (the stuff you get from the cosmetics stores, not the acetone based stuff) to thin it out. I've heard that the acetone stuff is ok to thin it too - but I already have the other stuff, so I feel safer.

I bought some for my chrysler about a year ago, and STILL haven't gotten around to using it... that $20 tube of paint that I left in the car is probably no good now, and I'm not sure I care : ) The car is 3 years old... and I put more work into this m3 : )

I'm going to order the pen shortly, for a '95 boston green... I'm counting on decent results based on experiences I've heard in the past.
