    UUC SSK Question

What's up! I got a question. After you guys installed your UUC SSK did you experience any noise while shifting? mainly while shifting between 1st and 2nd gear? I can't explain the noise other than saying it's noise. It shifts smoothly but with that annoyinhg noise, but It only happenes if i shift a little harder than normal. Lets say if you want to beat the next red light at the next intersection for example. And the harder and quicker i'm going the louder the noise between 1st and 2nd but no noise after those gears.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the SSK. I'm just assuming since it started a few weeks after the install. I brought it to a BMW mechanic and he said it's nothing and not to worry. I'll feel a bit better if one of you tell me that you are having the same experience. Any input would be appreciated.

    OOOO I just remembered!!!!

Here's a question i wanted to ask you guys since i installed it. The last step of the install that required us to put the yellow washer back on the pin. Were all you guys able to put that washer back on, cause it was impossible for both my brother and i to put the "C" clip back on with the washer in place. So we opted to just leave that tiny yellow washer out of the install. Might that have something to do with the noise? What do you guys think. Or should i ask, do you guys now what washer i'm talking about?? Please help :???:

I could not get the yellow washer back on either. I was so fed up with the 'bitch' clip that I just put the c-clip on and forgot about it. I think it is fine.

As far as the noise, I might know what you are talking about. It kind of sounds like a grinding noise. The same noise you here in the tranny if you keep forward pressure on the shifter. I have noticed it too if that is what you are talking about. Just like you, it just happens when I shift quickly and maybe pull out of first before the clutch is fully disengaged.

same happens to me--I believe I read in a recent forum thread that it is expected and normal with the EVO 3 SSK-

have a 98 M3 with the UUC Evo3 and I have never heard any noise like that while jumping off the line. After reading all the responses to this subject, maybe I'm screwed! Go figure - the car that doesn't make a funny noise is in bad shape!

Cool guys!! Thanks for the responses. I feel much better now. You guys explained the sound perfectly. It does sound like syncros or bearings and stuff like that. I was worried that my brother and i did something wrong with the install.

AMPOWERJ and i are the only ones who couldn't get that yellow washer on?? I don't think it really matters but i'm curious to know. Just knowing that one part is missing (even if it seems to be so insignificant) bothers me because it doesn't feel like it's a perfect job. I'm very picky when it comes to my car. I want everything to be perfect or at least close to it. Thanks again guys!!
