    power steering m3

    HI,

I'm having promblems with my powersteering it's starting to make a nose when i move it at low speeds.

Dose anyone know how much it can cost for a new one or have suggestion on what i can do.

I would guess that the belt is just getting old. A new one shouldn't cost you very much. You probably should replace it before it breaks and you have to deal with the smell of burning rubber in your engine bay.

there are actually 2 belts down there, but you can't see the 2nd one with out looking really closely... it's behind the first, and shorter

I believe the longer one up front covers power steering, alternator and water pump, while the smaller one covers a/c. The longer one will run you $20-$30, the smaller one half that. If you are going to replace one, it's enough of a pain that you might as well replace them both.

I'm just offering info on the replacement - I haven't a clue about diagnosing that problem (but if the belts look bad, replace them - it's worth it for your sanity).

Actually. It could be that you have a leak on one of the power steering hoses. That's what my problem was. It was making that noise that you were describing at low cornering speeds. But when I refilled the fluid, the noise would go away for a while. Try checking the power steering level. I 've replace the belts twice already that kupolo is talking about. But not because of a power steering noise. Simply because they were starting to crack. More of a preventive thing. Labor is an hour for both belts (actually about 1/2 hour). Really simple job.

I never really asked too many details at the dealership about my leaking powers teering situation, because it was all covered with the CPO.
