    Temperature Controls

I went out for a quick drive last night and started having problems with my temperature controls. Why is it that when it is 40 degrees outside, I set the inside temperature to 75 degrees and hit the auto button, the air conditioning snow flake lights up. I then get cold air blasting at my face and hot air from the windshield vents. When I turn the dial on the vents to red, warmer air comes out but the snow flake is still lit up.

What am I doing wrong. Oh yeah, I never thought I'd ask for help setting the temperature in a car.

Sounds like it is turning on the defrost? Mine does not turn on the A/C (Snowflake Button) when Auto is hit. Maybe someone else can help you out.

I also have the problem that cold air will come out of the top vents when the dial is in the middle. So I just turn it to red in the winter and blue in the summer.

You have to manually control the A/C (Snowflake button). Auto is not really totally automatic. It is just like your thermostat at home that you leave on 70 degrees but have to manually swith from heat to air. If you repeat what you did last night, press the auto button and then press the A/C button to switch it off. The light should go out, and you should feel heat coming from the floor.

BTW - I just realized you live in Lexington. What year/color M3 do you have? Have I seen you around Columbia?
