Just steal the damn thing. Just tell them you wanna go on an extended test drive and see ya.

If you dont want to do that offer 18,850.

I wouldn't offer that high...unless a mechanic has checked it out and agrees that it is mint.

There could be a number of problems with it you didn't catch in a casual observation.

      Good luck.

Don't rush into this. Have a mechanic loook at it first.

I bought a 98 great condition with 34K mi for $23K 4 mos ago. I had it checked by reputable mechanics. The seller warrantied 5 days no question return and 30 days for anything I can found. Found nothing wrong. I knew I paid a little more but with a 30 days warranty, that was my trade off.

I would think a 96 should be in the 17 - 19K range depends on the condition and mileage. Good hunting.

I have found that KBB usually has their prices inflated a little bit.

It is especially hard for a book to price an enthusiast car like the M3. The best thing to do is watch the internet and newspapers and just try to get a feel for what the cars are going for.

Buying a car like an M3 requires "due diligence", which it doesn't appear that that you have.

NADA is better than KBB, but they are both just references...it all depends on how motivated the seller is.

I found www.edmunds.com was a little bit more realistic than both of those, but like you say it's just a point of reference.

Mikeo: I like the "Due Diligence" quote. That's a good way to put it.

This is a buyers market. Save yourself some money, offer 14.5K and walk away if they don't like it. They'll probably call you when they can't sell it in a week.
