    0 - 60 times on your modded M3s

I think i might be running into money in the near future. things finally turning up. I'm thinking about modding my car. But the stats i'm most interested are not high end, but low end.

For those who have modded m3s how fast do you hit 60 from a standstill ?

    Thanks,

    mike

most don't measure the 60.. i honestly don't know my 60.. the only thing i have off the top of my head is my best quarter which was a 13.98... but that was stock. haven't run since..

Oh...in that case which mods would give me the fastest 0-60 ?

The only mod i have now would be my Remsus exhaust , car had it when i bought it.

all u need is power.. power will make it faster.. that and grip off the line..

im curious how do u exactly measure an accurate 0-60? but launch, traction, and good shifting is a big thing.. we measured my 97 auto m3 with stage 2 dinan, stage 2 tranny chip, uuc tse exhaust and CAI with a stop watch (like the one they use for circle running at school), did a few runs and comes down to 5.6 - 5.9 in that range, which is excelent for auto...

              aren't m3 0-60 times about 6 seconds stock ?

imports4ever858, so with all those mods it was only cut down by .1-.4 seconds ? I dont know much about autos/manuals or mods, but that seems like a small gain.

In that case i'd probably havce to do a lot more before i can dream about a sub 5 second 0-60

Yeah, taking even a 10th off the 0-60 time (I'm assuming you're talking 60 miles, not 60 foot) can take a lot of $$$.

To do sub 5 would be very, very costly indeed.

A new rear diff will be the easiest way to drop your times in this space. There's a considerable sacrifice though IMO.

whats the sacrafice in terms of the rear diff ?

not looking to drag race this car, but just a bit more kick in the start.

If you change the ratio in the (of the) rear diff the wheels will spin at a different speed relative to engine revs (think of a cog setup and the effect of using smaller/larger cogs).

If you increase you acceleration times, the sacrifice you make is that for any given speed your engine revs will be higher than stock.

This will be less fuel efficient and it can apparently be annoying with the 5 speed box when highway cruising.

Others are likely to be able to add to this...

With your exhaust, you'll go deaf on the highway from switching the diff.

I'm half kidding. In 5th gear, you'd be running at like 4xxxrpm on the highway at 70.

you'll lose some fuel efficiency, which isn't such a big deal I guess.

The diff is cheap and is great when combined with a 6 sp manual swap, but the tranny swap will cost you about 2-3k.

If you find someone on bimmerforums you might be able to score a better diff for like 300-500 bucks if you give him yours...someone who is trying to go back to stock for a sale.

It's hard to knock off large amounts of time from a 5.5-6 second 0-60 man.

i have an auto and most statistics say that autos run 6.4 0-60 and stick run 5.5.. so with those minor mods i cut down to 5.6 like i said is great for the auto.. i also cut down .6 seconds on my 8th mile runs.. which is excellent..

                          My best 0 to 60 was 5.2 and my best 1/4 mile was 13.89 @ 102mph.

yeah the diff does a lot although if you go too short you will have an extra shift to 60 which will cost you... My fuel economy is 20.3mpg on the highway and it can become quite annoying on the highway especially with a stock sound system.
