    Gear box

    Hey all,

just a quick bit of infromation is all I require on the type of tansmission I should be looking at. Going to by my second M3. The first was sold and since then have only driven a rotor (RX-7). I'm looking around the country (Australia) beeing that lets face it i'm going to have to go interstate to secure the car I want at the price I'm willing to pay.

I have found a few but having not driven one with a SEQUENTIAL shift I know not what to expect. I know how great the manual shift is having driven one but the sequential is a bit of an unknown.

If anyone has driven one, has an opionion of the sequential transmission or has had any reliablity problems, could you let me know, as I don'y want to fly and pick up my car and feel let down by a less than great gear change - and lets face it thats one of the great things obout the car.

    thx

    Welcome neighbour.

The SMG on the E36 is good, just not as good as the E46. It can be a bit clunky and is not always as "intelligent" as you might expect.

It was nevertheless a ground-breaking gearbox for such a car.

Check http://www.bm3w.co.uk/ for truck-loads on info on SMG and driver experiences.

Good luck with your search and decision.
