    engine (vanos ) noise Help!!

hello i am hearing a load nocking noise from my front top engine area. So i took it to a bmw dealership and asked a tech to take a look and drive around. He said that it could be my vanos, camshaft area, and that somthing is loose or not right when idealing and slowly accelerating. I dont want to spend too much just to find out whats wrong cuase i rather sell the car then to put a few gran in this problem you know? anyone have any ideas?

How many miles on your car? VANOS can crop up and cause problems, and I would put my money on that if you are up there is miles or have a lot of hard driven miles on the car. Just thank the lord you dont have an E39 M5 with the S62; the earlier ones ate their VANOS units like crazy.

I would just fix the problem. Unless you sell the car to someone who doesnt know any better, they will hear the VANOS and try to deduct the repair cost off your asking price.

    Good luck either way!

120K...might be VANOS, or maybe simply the tensioner. Check one thing at a time, and check the VANOS last as it is the most expensive item. If you can fix it correctly for less money, then that is the way to go. Other than that, it is up to you to decide what course of action you should take.
