    fan clutch removal help!

Yes, its me again, the guy needing the quick mods for the up coming race.

I don't have the fan clutch removal tool... I need some help using basic tools to get the fan out. the bolt doesn't spin with the fan anymore... do I just need to spin it off? And which way to spin it off, couter clockwise or what? Or am I just ****ing up?

Go to www.understeer.com They should have a good write up on how to take the fan out. The fan clutch unscrews clockwise.

I think that if you use a screwdriver you can hold the waterpump pulley in place so you can unscrew the fan clutch. This is what is says on www.understeer.com

Use a fan clutch removal tool (or a big screwdriver) to hold the waterpump pulley in place. Loosen the the fan clutch using a 32mm wrench. The threads are reverse rotation, so turn it CLOCKWISE to loosen. Once the fan clutch is loose, remove the wrench, spin the fan clutch the rest of the way off with your hand. Once the fan is completely off carefully fish it out from between the engine and the radiator, it may take a little force.

There is no place to put the screw driver to lock up the pully. I just can't do it.

I just took mine off with a NAPA adjustable wrench and used a 10mm open end wrench on one of the 4 pulley bolts to stop it from spinning and she came right off. It comes of counter-clockwise, once loose just spin the fan blades and it will come right off.

Well, for an update I finally got the damn thing off. Broke the screw driver I was using... twice. But luckally it was a 6 pack from walmart for $2.50. God I love walmart.

Don't expect miracles from this mod. Also, if you don't put the lower temp thermostat and fan switch in and the fan is gone, you are going to heat your engine a bit more. This won't matter if it is cold around you. If you plan on driving all year, then you will need the other parts of you risk overheating.

I never had problems when removing fan clutches. And we do it everyday here in my workshop. Just place the 32mm wrench with one side facing up and then hit it with a good hammer clockwise. The nut will loosen with no effort.
