    Guibo

The dealer told by my guibo was cracked and needs replacing.

Has anyone done this themselves and how hard is it in comparison to say replacing your brake pads?

I searched the forum and it said you had to pull your driveline and exhaust. Is this really true?

    TIA,

    Findley

last time i was under my car i was looking at the guibo which is starting to crack a little. so i figure sometime i'll have to replace that but i don't remember the exhaust being in the way of anything. you have to just unbolt the driveline, maybe from both ends for clearance to remove the guibo but i'm not sure. other than that it seems easy to do as long as you can get ander the car. it's pretty open around there so it should be an easy job.

it is a piece of hard rubber like a hockey puck that is bolted in between the transmission and the driveline to reduce vibration from the road into the car. just a comfort feature.

Ahh, I just did this not too long ago so I do know about the procedure. Before I write up a complete precedure, let me just say what the bentley manual says is correct. This means that you WILL in fact have to remove the exhaust system.

I tried doing it without.. thinking that I could just undo the 6 bolts and the slide the guibo out. Ohh no my friend, the driveshaft goes through the center of the guibo, which is actually really good if you think about it. So this means that you have to slide the drive shaft out of the transmission, you do have a little play but it is just not enough. You have to pull down the center of the driveshaft so you can kink it. Being the smart one that I was, I just unbolted the back, let it hang and slide the heat shield back a little.. ohhhh no, not enough room. It needs to come ALL the way off.

It is overall a really easy proceedure though.

Ohh and it isn't just for comfort.

          Here is a pic...

BTW, the car sounds so mean with out an exhaust hehe

question also. i said it is for comfort because it reduces vibration. what else does it do?

It is also known as a "flex-disk." It reduces the immediate "kick" into the differential.

                  Extrav. Dreams--

Did your car feel any different after replacing the guibo? Mine's cracked and every once in a while I feel like there is a little slop in the driveline when transitioning from coasting to accelerating.

From your pic I see the UUC TMEs, is now a good time to replace them as well? How hard is that?

Yes, some of the slack was reduced but not all. I have yet to confirm if this is a problem with my differential or if it normal but it did indeed help.

Anytime you are under the car would be a good time to do that. However, I did not do mine myself so I don't know what exactly has to be done. I hear it is easy though.. just make sure you get the torque specs correct. Not enough and it make come loose.. too much and odd vibrations aand noise have been reported.

                    good luck
