astan - Do you really think MOST M3s have been abused? I would think this is more likely if you are buying from the 2nd or 3rd owner but you have to remember these cars were pushing 50 grand new and most of the people that bought them new, do not strike me as the type that would abuse these cars. Even with the modifications that I have done to my car, as the 2nd owner, I definately do not abuse it. Driving it hard and abusing are two different things.
So I would say to watch out for a heavily modified M that you do not know the owner but purchasing from the original owner in stock condition should be a no brainer.

i agree we are not talking about buying a Mustang GT. M3 owners are usually older and more mature who are obsessive about their cars thus feel safe in buying one. Mine is for sale if you are interested. PM me if you want. It has been babied to the nth degree. always garaged, no rain, a florida car so no salt or rust. I rarely shift above 3K rpm so the motor is like new. Rock bottom price too. I am buying a S2 M3 so I have to give up the love of my life.

I am mixed. Most M3 owners that sell their cars will miss them. The other few either don't care about cars altogether, or had some very bad luck with it. What i'm trying to say is that most M3 owners love their cars, even after they sell it. One side to the love your car deal is that you would never abuse it and drive it lightly and hope it lives forever. The other side, which fits most including myself, will drive it smoothly, but drive it hard when the roads are fit for it. This means that if i ever sell my M3, i'll want some last sentimental drifting sessions beforeit's no longer mine. I'll probably push it the hardest right before i sell it, knowing that the days are numbered that I get the that fun driving-feel from a car. So i figure a lot of others out there will "have their final fun" with their M3s before selling it to the 2nd/3rd/4th owner. Makes sense, right?
