    Worst Intakes = Carbon Fiber

Turns out, that carbon fiber is one of the best conductors around....whether its heat or electricity.....

Companies trying to sell CF intakes are just giving you a "warm air" intake.

    Any opinions, concerns, or corrections??

    Carbon-fiber seems to be a semi-conductor.

I think that it actually can hold or expell heat... but I am not sure because dimond is a form of carbon but its the best heat conductor in the world.. So I don't know

from what my understanding of carbon fiber as it relates to motorcycle exhausts is it doesnt conduct heat.

if you feel the carbon fiber part of a motorcycle exhaust, it isnt hot, but slightly warm, whereas the steel part will burn the heck out of your hand.

        really?

i can speak from experience with heat conductance.

side by side comparison. heat shield made of carbon fiber vs "heat shield" made of steel. component: motorcycle exhaust heat shield. metal "heat shield" got hot enough to cause skin burns and melt rubber heel of boot. carbon fiber heat shield got warm, nothing more. and get this... the cf shield is barely thicker than 5 sheets of 20-lb xerox paper. CAI cf units are considerably thicker (and of a tighter weave, i might add).

side by side comparison. exhaust canister made of carbon fiber vs exhaust canister made of aluminum. component: motorcycle exhaust. aluminum exhaust remained hot enough to cause skin burn even after motor was shut off (blister on former friend testifies to this fact). carbon fiber exhaust can be touched with bare hand even while the motor is running.

quite the opposite of being a "good conductor of heat."

as far as electricity is concerned. just for kicks (in direct response to this thread), i tested electrical conductance on the cf parts on the car and motorcycle. result: infinite resistance (i.e., no conductance).

i'm wondering where you got your information.

        (edit)

btw... what difference would it make for a CAI whether or not it conducts electricity? aluminum CAIs certainly conduct a lot more.

yes, i posted and then desmo backed up my post.

not too sure where you are getting your intake information info????

Yeah seriously. I think he is getting water mixed up with CF.:help:

If anything conducts heat better than aluminum or any kind of metal compound thereof.....we should just use that on our stoves.

Aluminum is proven over and over to be one of the best, most efficient and abundant source of metal to conduct heat and dissipate heat (heat sinks).

Actually, thinking back to CF intakes; astan100's Carbonio was quite hot after driving....."tastes like burning...." -Ralph Wiggum

Ok... stop, this is a dumb thread. Use common sense and don't post stuff like this unless you are sure. Man, tell me you were drunk when you wrote this... because I really have to be absentminded to think that carbon fiber is a good heat conductor.

Next thing you know someone's gonna say neon lights make your car lighter because it looks like its floating.:help:

I have a gruppe m intake which is all made of carbon fiber, and i personaly think theyre the best on the market..

Of course my CF intake was hot...it's in my engine bay.

Do other intakes not get hot or something? There has to be some reason companies make stuff out of CF...come on. It's not all marketing.

hey bulla what does that intake give you in the way of hp?

Yea... CF is actually very good at keeping heat down... this is a no brainer.....but the only problem i see and why i avoided it myself is the possibilty that the weave will start to come apart from the inside (like Dinans did) and thus our engines would be sucking in pieces of the weave... not good... all u want is air...not fiber strands!!

What are some names of the good intakes, I was thinking about putting in ECIS or Active Autoworks are there any that are better for under or around $300

Carbonio, $289. CF intake that is behind the bumper. That's what I'm saving up for, definitely. Astan100 has one, he should be able to tell you more about it.

I think you are getting water and xenon gas mixed up... what?

H2O is not good at conducting heat or electricity

On a side note.. not sure if I'm digging these new boards... I guess it's just different
