    Ten Days and still grinning

I took delivery of my '98 four door last friday (20th) and thought I'd write some early impressions of the car. Its a silver manual with 94'000 and I bought it from a BMW dealer here in Mississippi. They only gave me a one month warranty (sucks) but I managed to get them to do a full bumper to bumper so I knew I'd be covered. As soon as I bought it I took the car to a German car specialist for a thorough going over. The following faults were found :-

rear bushes worn (explained the wandering back end under heavy accel), small leak from gear box, small leak from power stearing pump and the brake pads needed changing. Everything else checked out fine including compression. All repairs were carried out at BMW's expense and I received fantastic service from the dealer.

My impressions so far of the car are as follows.

I am a 34 year old brit. with two very young kids and am a self confessed car nut. This is the first time I have owned anything with any performance and I find every excuse to go out and drive it. The handling and power of the car go without saying. The car is a joy to drive. PERIOD!!!!! I have found utopia in second and third gear approaching a fast bend and not letting up. It just stays on line and asks for more. I have friends who could not believe that motoring could be such a tactile experience. I love the cars subtleness, the car exudes class and is appreciated really only by those who know great automobiles. It is a true marque!!!! I look forward to the future and possibly gaining confidence to explore the car with the ASC turned off. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge contained in the forum.

Just wait until you start modding that thing.... you'll soon be like me and if there is something that needs to be done and your awake at night, you'll strap on the flashlight to your head and head out into the cold to finish so you can drive it as soon as you wake up the next morning... Maybe thats just me hehe
