Well guys, I think my Cats are going. I'm getting a nice rattling noise from them, which is probably the platinuim things breaking off. So I think its time to do some cleaning. Has anyone put a tube through they're cats or cleaned them out completely? The reason I ask is because in PA we need to have cats visable... thats our emissions test heh.

And those of us who appreciate breathing clean air and having clean air for our children want to thank you for keeping the cats intact!
Cats generally last a long long time, but if something HAS come loose inside and you don't want to buy new ones from the $tealer (and I don't blame you) then find some used ones... they're around...

If you appreciate breathing clean air then its the factories you should be after. One coal power plant produces as much pollution as 6.2 million cars . Putting cats on cars does not change the fact that the factories are screwing over our air. However before 1982 the cars were very inefficent, and basically were not built to last. The government is fighting the ineffeciency of the past the wrong way, and thats by making the cars of today increasingly less efficient. Its the factories that pay off government officals to shift the blame. I do believe the CA emissions were needed, but the majority of pollution is not from cars. Why not focus on the big problem rather than scratching the surface?
There is some type of modification to cars that most people don't know about that gains massive gas milage, great power, and is very very easy to maintain. The cars use some type of copper filter from what I remember, the exhaust is free flow, and the oil never needs to be changed (from what I remember, maybe I'm wrong). I think it was a Cadillac V8 that got 40 mpg with producing co2 and water as emissions from what I remember. The oil companies bought the patent for this and shelfed it so they can still sell their oil in the quantities they'd prefer. I wish I could find how to modify the car to get this. If anyone knows let me know.
So I'm still working on a free flow exhaust, when I finally find out how to do the above paragraph I will do it. I do agree with getting the cars that shoot so much pollution out the tailpipe off the road. I hate cars where if your behind them all you see is a black cloud of smoke. Like diesel trucks, or poorly running cars. Those are the cars that should fail inspections.
Anyone got an inexpensive way to get rid of the cats? Because thats what I need right now so my car doesn't suffer.

Not worth it on 96+ cars, our cats flow really well. Are they rattling at idle? If so its just the heat shield loose on the cats, just wedge something in there to stop it. Also if you delete the cats you will need to get o2 simulators, $200 for the pair.
Take this from someone who had an AA track pipe, but no longer.

i have a 95 and removed them and noticed a big difference, since its obd1 i knew i wouldnt have problems with the o2. I noticed a good gain of power only thing is its a bit louder. Another reason why i ditched them bc those freakin things weigh ALOT! almost weigh out the weight of my bump in the trunk.... lol. But for obd2 idk if its too great of an idea on obd2.

i believe that 96 m3's (ob2) are very restictive cars thats y they made the
the engines bigger to make up for the lost horsepower. thats y there quieter than
95's because they r very muffled. theres no need 2 buy the aa track pipe or the o2 simulators. i did it at a mom and pop shop. they took the cats out and put in pipes.
the check engine light goes away in a week of driving. the aa track pipes r a waste of 600 bucks.

That really is a terribly misinformative post.
-quieter? im not so sure about that.
-go the to rogue website www.rogueengineering.com and within the site there is a mathematical explanantion that says the 96+ cats are minimally more restricitve.
-Why would you want to run without 02 sensors making the engine run crazy rich as the ecu cant communicate with the cats or what it thinks are cats=not healthy at all!

Thank you, nothing that guy said is right.
The only way around the o2 problem is by buying the o2 sims.

I got the AA track pipes with the simulators and noticed a pretty big difference. The car accelerates quicker, they weigh a lot less than the cats and sound nice at higher rpm's. Also, when its time to smog it I just put the cats and O2 sensors back on. So IMO not a waste of $600. Headers run around $1000+ and yield less hp than the track pipes.

Have you dynoed your car with the track pipe and with out?
