    Installing Alpine 7894...

Im going to install the 7894 HU along with a JL 500/1 amp, a 10" W7 and .5 farad capacitor this weekend on my 97 M3(w/HK factory system). Any pointers or anything I should know about before I get started besides reading the manual(I already did). What should I ground the HU to? Also, where's the best place to run the RCA cable and remote wire for the amp? Oh and one other thing, should I ground the amp to the negative terminal of the battery or look for another ground? Thanks

Hrm, currently my amps connect to my cap using 4 gauge wire, and from the cap to the battery with 2 gauge wire I believe...however I don't think this is the recommended setup. If I recall correctly, usually they recommend you ground your capacitor and amps to another grounding point rather than the battery. So you'd have battery positive to distribution block to amp and cap. Ground point (not battery) to distribution block to amp and cap ground. (oh, the positive distribution block should be fused and the ground wires should be as short as possible)

Cool, Thanks. What about the RCA's and the remote, where did you run those?

Those go along the right hand side of my car, there's a plastic panel that holds the edge of the carpet down alongside the door, I just ran it under there. I also have a bass boost control, that wire under the carpet that covers the hump on the floor between the two rear seats, then the bass boost control resides inside the rear cup holder. (hope that all makes sense) You'll probably need some RCA filters, because there's a lot of components behind the glove box that will give a lot of noise...

actually.. best place to run the RCA's etc to the rear is under the center console.. basically right down the center.. under the carpet.. under the rear seat.. and into the trunk.. i have ZERO alternator whine.. couldn't be any better..

yah I figured that might cut the alternator whine...no problems with bumps showing up in the carpet from all the wires that way?

No. And make sure you run NO MORE THAN 2ft of ground from the amp to the grounding point, scratch the gloss, paint...etc.....get some bare metal.

This is DC system, electricity runs from - to +.

What about the HU, what should I ground that to? And if I run the wires down the middle would I have to remove the seat to get under the carpet?

Shouldn't there already be a stock ground from the stock harness? Been a long time, but I'm pretty sure the HU is the easiest of install.

Just use a wiring harness to plug you Alpine into your factory wiring. This will provide power, antenna, ground, etc. for your Alpine very easily. You will have to remove the rear seat bottom which only requires pulling it up.

i have a tip: I think that 500/1 may be underpowering the 10w7 unless the 500/1 is RMS. IIRC, the 12w7 runs 750w rms and the 10w7 runs 500w rms.

                          Just a thought.
