    BMW GPS Option for E36???

I saw it in a BMW options catalog. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about this unit? I think it lists the unit for $1500 plus.

gps nav is a great thing, but i feel that for 1500, a map will do.

i heard it was an option on the 99 m3, but have yet to see an owner with the nav system in the 99.

I bought Garmin's Street Pilot 3 in 2001. It really a nice portable GPS product that sits on the dash board, with color display and voice prompts. It does everything I want a GPS unit to do. Unfortunately, the memory chip is limited to 128 MB so it may not be enough if you plan a long trip. And the memory chip looks to be non-standard so you are forced to buy it from Garmin at a high price. The price of the GPS unit is in the mid $600 range now, much less than what I paid for.

I recommend the newer portable GPS' that have Compact Flash memory chip and touch screen or better yet, the Magellan unit with a buillt hard drive (stores the entire map database for North America).

      Good luck.
