    Hanging Wire...Uh Oh!

The other day I noticed two wires with a plug/clip at the end of it hanging underneath my car. The location is just behind the passenger side fog light area. I couldn't see where this was plugged into or attached to and one of the wires was disconnected from the plug. Any ideas as to what this is?

Do you have an alarm. If you don't I believe this are the factory wires for the factory alarm. The car was prewired.

No, I don't have an alarm. Where were these wires connected to originally? Or do you think they were just tucked away somewhere? Seems odd... Oh, no pics either.

wait...underneath your car? Mine was attached along the side of the engine bay near the top...but I guess if all the clips/tape came loose then maybe it would go down that far?

Did the plug have like two decently sized holes? I think this might be something else...but I could be wrong.

A picture really would be worth a thousand words.

It's the temperature guage I believe... I bet you drive really fast and spash through puddles or something... thats about the only thing that can shake that loose. You might have broke the clip... no worries, your car won't blow up.

I would bet for the temp switch too. Its attached to the plastic cover under the fog light. That temp switch is for the OBC. Check if your temp reading inside the car is correct. If the switch is broken, you should read a -40 degrees (C).

So you think it is the temp switch that reads the outside ambient temp displayed on the OBC? I'll have to check this evening when I get home. Now my engine temp gauge in the instrument cluster is running in the blue which I was able to determine from help in this forum that it was probably due to a stuck open thermostat. You don't think these two problems could be related huh? I know my OBC temp reading was working last week and I didn't think I was driving it that hard, to knock them loose. My car is in the garage waiting to go to the doctor 03/15/04. It's too bad my digital camera was destroyed by some exploded batteries otherwise I could take a picture. Maybe I will try to borrow one from a friend if you think it would be worthwhile.

IF everything seems to be working, the problem is probably negligible.

I just sincerely doubt the alarm plug fell down from around the washer resovoir to the foglight area.

Take pics eventually. It probably doesn't have anything to do with your coolant gauge thing.

I'll definately check for the alarm plug around the washer resevoir, if that is where they normally are tucked in. I'll try to do some more investigation as to the source of the hanging plug as well, in case it's not the same plug.

I am about 99.9% sure that if this sensor looks like a large disc, that it is the sensor that is supposed to clip into your brack duct on the passenger side of the car. It is for the heated washer nozzles and lock for your key to melt the ice or something stupid like that. It will not affect the performance of your car.

The OBC temp sensor is in the drivers side brake duct. Just see if you can pop it back in the open hole on the brake duct. You may have to remove a "pork chop" under the car to fit your hand back in. Maybe you can do it from the top by sticking your hand down into the engine on that side.
