    a few informative questions

    hello,

i'm a new member here. i am currently selling my turbo'd honda for an e36. i am doing this because my honda doesn't have that one important thing, REAR WHEEL DRIVE. and i have found the e36 to be the best bang for the buck. i just wanted to know a few basic questions about the car before i start looking intensively. what common mechanical problems do these cars have? how long can these motors last? what is the rev limiter set to, how far will it pull? what should i look for in a good used m3? any information would be awesome since i am trying to learn everything i can about the car before i make a decision on one particular m3. thanx and hello all members!

rear wheel drive is much more fun.

mechanical problems would be suspension mounts, trans mounts, driveline, and vanos system. replacing the mounts with some aftermarket goodies will set you for life and just take care of your engine. check the water pump out, you don;t want a plastic impellar.

the motor will last as long as you want it to. it's a very good motor but if you abuse it, it will shorten its life. check and change oil. take care of it, that's the best advice or if you want to thrash it, just expect to work on it a lot.

rev limit is 6800 but for 250-300 you can make it 7200 plus get better performance with a computer programmer from conforti, bavauto, turner.

look for low miles and one owner vehicles. check to see if everything is original. check for abuse. put the car up and look at the underneath. if it looks like it has been bottemed out, stay away. there should be no leaks except for maybe a little from the rear diff at the axles and the steering fluid reservoir.

if the car has low miles, check the clutch for wear by putting it in 4th, giving a little gas and dump the clutch. if it stalls the engine, your clutch is good. if it grinds and slips, stay away.

usually a one owner vehicle is the thing to look for. and buy from someone who isn't in the age of 19-22 cause honestly, you know they abused it.

of course if you are looking to abuse the car and race it, just expect to pay for it later.

thanks. how much does a used 95 model usually go for say with about 100K miles? i've seen em go on ebay for 10K many times. but i want to view the car before i buy. is this a cheap price or about average? and if anyone know where i could get a good deal i would appreciate it.
