    Euro RHD SMG E36

Which countries in Europe import RHD vehicles? I know England does, and I believe Germany does not... Which others do? Also, wasn't SMG I available on the E36 in Europe? How much more advanced is SMG II? Is SMG I still worthy? What can it compare to?

I had a very interesting idea.... Importing a RHD SMG E36 M3. Is that even possible? The car alone would probably be a little more (in USD), and then the shipping and licensing would be h*ll... But is it possible? All those Skylines thinking they're they only RHD car imported! HA! Well, I thought that would be cool, because you'd also have a Euro motor which many people spend 8gs on later anyway. Oh well, just an idea. Thank in advance.

You can get RHD cars from Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom...... you will not pass emissions and it will be a bitch to insure for someone your age!!!!

      Insurance... Whatever.

Why will a RHD car not pass emission? Is it the Euro engine that is smokey? Cuz I'd be down with FI on a Euro engine...

Speaking of, is that possible? Any turbo kit out there for the Euro S52 (S50 B32)? 321+Turbo = happines...

I did read a website about a project, and it worked, but I was wondering if there were any companies that do it in production. Thankssss....

a euro engine will not pass US emissions if you are importing the car in......this will cost you all too much money to do .....you might as well buy a used 2002 E46 SMG II bare bones coupe

Hey WyattH...why do you always have to be difficult. You can't just grab a 95 and be happy.

You gotta try to mess with the system. Like turbos or euros.

Well... I have the most complex and unsual situation.

Lemme attempt at breaking it down.

Last year when I joined this forum, I had the assumption my grandparents and parents would combine forces to buy me a >$14,000 car. Well, they still might, but I am not counting on it (the only reason I expected this was because they did for my brother and older cousin). Well, I have been saving since 2000 when the E46 debuted in Europe. I love the E46 M3. I only made $500/month allowance and work combined... But I saved most of it... So last year I had several thousand, but not near enough for my car. So, as I honestly do not regret, I got to making illegit money. I didn't do it illegally, but not exactly legally. But more importantly my parents would be dissapointed if they knew. So when I asked PERMISSION to buy myself a 2002-2003 M3, instead of saying "Yeah, sure, your money, whatever" like I hoped, they just said "How did you get so much money?". Well I can't think of a story, and lying isn't the coolest thing, so I was stumped. I said I don't have enough right now, but I will down the road... And they were just focused on how I made money.

So now I am back to getting an E36, only now since I have the money... I can mod the heck out of it (or so I plan/think). I wouldn't be surprised if I came across another bump in the road.

But yeah, I'm difficult and my car situation if F'in ridiculous. I hope for a 1999 Cosmos or Estoril coupe with Black leather where I'd get white sport seats and hopefully white retrofitted door panels.

Another subject... Does anyone have news/stats/price for AA Stage III Turbo? Only Stage II is listed on the site, but I've heard of Stage III. Also, is there a FI system for the 3.2 Evo? Thanks...

WD PRO, any more pictures? Is that transmission for sale aftermarket? Do you know if it can be matted to a US-spec engine?

                  Hrmmm endless possibilities.

Ahhhh...okay. So you have the money for something really expensive, but you can't make the initial investment LOOK expensive. Then you can really mod it and no one will know.

That is a weird situation. Now it all is coming together. Full turbo kits are goign to be stupid expensive...like 25k after EVERYTHING including new brakes, clutch, etc.

You'll be able to burn almost everything on the road though.

Are you paying straight cash (not literrally, but no financing and stuff) for anything you are planning on buying?

As a side note Wyatt, I understand where you are coming from because when I wanted to buy my car...I really relaly wanted an E46 and I started on the E46 side of this forum as well.

I didn't quite land the job I wanted at the time I wanted for the summer, so I lost out on a lot of money there. To make up for it though, Throughout out the Spring Semester, I day traded with like 20k (not the best idea...day trading is risky business). Most of it was my money, but some was rent and expense money my parents prepaid to me for the semester. When they found out that I took some of their money and used it as leverage, they weren't very happy. I made a couple thousand doing this, but it didn't really get me close enough to owning my E46 like I hoped. I thought about financing and blah blah blah, but I just couldn't justify it. My parents only believe in paying all cash for a car, so I started thinking about my old favorite car...the e36.

In the end, I decided that I really like almost everything about the e36 and I loved how little I would lose on depreciation. If I was going to sink most of my investing money into a depreciable asset, at least I could minimize how much it depreciated.

I'm very happy with my car and I love it. In the end, people's reactions are much better to the e36 because it looks older so they don't call me a rich jerk. People always tell me that they think guys with new E46 M3's at a young age are pricks. IF you're in Cali though, maybe it doens't matter at all.

Can’t answer most of your questions sorry !

What I can tell you is that it was option 793 and that in 1998 it was an additional £1735 GBP.

A quick look at the car tells me it would be a major conversion. Differences that stand out quickly are :

                              · Repositioned washer bottle to make room for the hydraulics.

                              · Different radiator cowling for the new washer bottle.

                              · Different front bumper ? Washer bottle mounted to the back of it.

                              · Different gear surround.

                              · Different centre console to allow for the SMG switch.

                              · Different instrument cluster to allow for SMG display / Shift light.

                              · Different box / Clutch ! Same as Euro 6 Speed with some extra bits.

                              · Different pedal box – No clutch pedal.

                              · Different throttle linkage ? The ECU takes over during changes etc.

                              · Extra SMG ECU – Don’t know where this is.

                              · + All extra wiring & pipe work.

There must be loads of other stuff because I think the SMG brain interrogates the engine and ABS ECU’s to ensure correct / smooth shifts.

Come on, tell us all what you did !
