well if you are into car sound which you shouldnt be with the e36 m3 since its purpose wasn't for thumps in the trunk, evo sport also makes a audiopile pulley set that doesnt underdrive the altenator pulley but instead lightens it or something like that

Wo said you cant be an audiophile as well as a performance lover? I would say that the e36 m3 isnt meant to have 20's stuffed in the wheel wells or an air-ride suspension..but an audio system..why not. UUC makes a lightened alternator pulley as does evosport, Rogue just opted to not even touch it in the first place. There are countless articles out there and testimonials about every pulley set made..the choice is up to the consumer.

I am new to this forum and will have a 98 M3 in a few days. I was curious if you put in the fan delete mod and underdrive your water pump won't this, at some point, cause overheating problems? Those two mods would probably be my 1st because it seems like alot of bang for the buck.

hrm... i might aim for the rogue engineering now.. i think the alternator is pretty important to have for sound or not... how come AA doesn't make any pulleys?

Nope. I've been running with no driven fan and UUC UDPs for almost a year now with no problems, a lot of guys are doing the same with no problems.

FYI, the alternator pulley included with UUC's UDPs is exactly the same size as stock and does not under drive the alternator. In fact, because so many guys weren't even bothering to install it, UUC has now made it optional. I'm not sure if UUC has added it to their web site yet, but you can get their pulleys without the alternator pulley for $20 less.

another vote for the URI Crank Pulley. Do a search on BF. you will see a number of people have reported the Crank pulley to be better than a ltw flywheel and Acc. pulley combo. Also dyno's have been less than impressive with the UUC/Evo Acc. pullies 3-5whp max... whereas the URI before/after will show 10whp.

why would u want to put your crank at risk? for just some measly 5 hp, and if i recall correctly evo sport pulleys give u a lot more than 3-5 hp, more like 10.7 rwhp on a 95 m3, i would think that it would even show better torque #s on a 96-99..

That I have to agree with. I know many people dont have problems...but I would hate to be the one guy who did have issues. Id say go the more expensive route if you want to FEEL a similar power increase with a ltw flywheel and accessory pullies. The reason I emphasize feel is because the flywheel doesnt give dyno-power but it does give a feel of more power.

I have an automatic.....getting the acc. pulleys and the LTW flywheel is better or crank pulley? I'm not even sure you can even get the LTW flywheel with the auto....? I'm confused.

with an auto there is no offerring of a ltw. flywheel.

If I had an auto I would buy the accessory pullies but most likely not the crank pulley, as I really think it is too risky for the power.

I think forced induction is risky but you are getting sometimes an output that is twice that of stock. 150 rwhp justifies the risk...10rwhp doesn't.

Thats what I thought, but why would the crank pulley be a risk?

Why even install Acc. pulleys if the gain is 5 or less? At 5hp or less hp, there is a good chance the dynos margin of error could be making the hp or less friction from cooler lubrication, adaptation by the ECU or run the car while its not as hot as before...there could be a number of reasons why a dyno will fluctuation 5hp. Anyhow as you know, there is not one reported failure caused by a crank pulley.

bunch of b.s. no offence. with auto tranny you can in fact get a lightened flywheel, and a crank pulley isn't as dangerous as for 5 speed. but you cannot have both.. also you can build up the tranny and supercharge the car and u'll peel through second just like a stick would.. it would be similar to the feel of an smg on a e46.. most people dont know **** about auto trannys because they dont spend the time to learn since they have 5 or 6 speed.. but for those that have auto and want to build it, there is a lot of potential, matter of fact with the auto gearing and supercharger and if u build the motor and tranny right, u'll smoke any 5 speed off the line and freeway, and u will not be gear limited.. but back to the pulley concern, i got an auto and i'm building it up, i went with evo sport setup, tell u guys results on monday after install..

So a crank pulley would be fine for my auto.... ; yes, an auto has much potential when built up, even 5 speeds need build up(like clutch).

*EDIT* : I meant manuals, not just 5 speeds.

What risks? They are people with 50k and more miles running crank pulleys. There has been no failure on a 3 series motor due to a crank pulley. For the OBDII guys we have less to worry about, our cranks are forged. I'm not getting why you guys are thinking they are dangerous. I've tracked my car many times with the crank pulley and haven't had any problems.

Check out the indepent dynos of accessory pulleys, not the ones from the company. You will see accessory pulleys give about 5 rwhp.
