    check engine light

    Hey all

    Ok heres the scenario. I live in South Cal and im up for registration so all you know Californians know what that means.. Yes an endless line at the DMV with pissed off employees.



    Ok my check engine light is on and i need to pass smog coz its required for registration.

    Can i pass smog with the check engine light on? reason i say is coz my check engine light comes on and off!! im unsure what the dealio is!



    Does anyone have any recommendations on where i can purchase the sensor and what kinda costs im lookin at?



    Id appreciate any help.. Thanks again in advance for your replies!! I love this car maaayyyyn!

      No you can't get your car smogged with the check engine light on. Well, yes you can, but it won't pass inspection. If the guy sees it quick, he probably won't even put it on the rollers. When your check engine light goes off, is it after you recently filled your tank. Mine goes on and off also, because my gas cap needs to be replaced, it doesn't always seal properly. See if that is your problem, if it is, or might be, the cap is only like $12.

        Thanks man. Yeah dude it keeps going off and on. I recently replaced the cap as well and it went off for awhile then came back on again. Once my battery died and when i replaced it my check engine light did not come on as well for awhile. Its a pain in da :banghead: to get all this done! thanks again for input!

          Are you turning your car off when you put gas in it? That could cause it to throw a code. If your keeps on turning on and off, check your o2 sensors and make sure the connection is clean.

            Yeah i make sure the care is turned off. I will check the connection as well.

            Has anyone tried the smog passer stuff you put into your fuel tank? does that really work?

              It works to an extent. But that won't help you with your check engine light situation. In other words, it won't turn the light off if that is what you are wondering.

                i get check engine light on after i fill up the gas tank full , after about 30-50 miles driving - it turns off .

                i replaced the gas cap but it still happens to my ///M.

                  Yup mine did the same thing.. I replaced the O2 sensors and now my car actually runs real well. No problems now with Check engine light, and i passed smog too! I can see a big difference in acceleration now . My car runs a bit smoother too!
