What RPMs are you supposed to shift at?

For normal driving? For performance driving? For best mileage? I usually shift around 3-3500 just driving around town, and higher when I'm accelerating on the freeway. I just want to make sure I'm doing things right with this car.

When you shift depends on the circumstances. For each gear it is going to be different, not to mention when you put mods on your car, your power band is going to change, with that the time you shift may also change. So there really is no right answer to that question

Just drive backwards, no need for shifting up.

Seriously, the shift should feel natural. Don't rev the engine more than it needs to be. Around town, accelerating in traffic I almost never exceed 3000. The only time to rev high is if you are trying to get somewhere in a hurry.

Hey there as long as you don't over rev the damn thing!!!!

Do not change from fourth back to 3rd or even worst 1st.

8160rpm is the max recordable measurement on an overrev. Its called the "money shift" if you get anywhere near this reading you most definatly have a set of bent exhaust valves.

The car might run fine but you would just be fooling yourself. If this happends pull the heads get it over with, looking at some money but if a valve snaps then repair costs will go up.

Lastly its a high performance engine not a tank, learn to drive it well and it is a sweet ass engine....

hes saying dont put the car in 3rd when you mean to put it in 5th and dont put it in 2nd when you mean to put it in 4th.

Doing any of the above shifts when at high rpms in the previous gear will cause an over-rev.

btw, gumballf355 isn't really joking. He likes to be above 6000 on his m3. If you want to avoid missed shifts, get the UUC tranny mounts. I shift below 3000, actually, when i put-put to work. Gas prices are toooooooooo high these days. Those in northern california would feel my pain.
