Washing my car is like a kick in the face

Every time I find more blemishes. I'm not sure what I can do about this one. It appears that something bleached my paint. :banghead: It looks like it could have been something I put on my wheels, but it happened recently and all I've been using for the past month is tire blackener. I went about 2 weeks without washing the car. :help: :help: :help:

Try polish...and if that doesn't get it off, use a glaze (more abrasive polish).

IT takes impurities out of the paint like oxidation and stuff like that. Be sure to re-wax the area you polished too.

ive never had anything like that occur from any type of tire shine substance.. must be from the wheel cleaner.. that stuff is really really bad on wheels.. makes them rust easy etc.. if not properly prayed off.. no telling what it would do to paint.. i never use it though..

Yeah, I never understood wheel cleaner. I mean...it's called a sponge and soapy water right?

As far as tire cleaner, I've never had problems either. What kind of soap are you using as a side note?

I just go to the local do it yourself carwash, spray the car down and fill a bucket with the soap wash provided there, wipe the car down and rinse. When I had my chrome rims I used a chrome wheel cleaner that worked great, but may have done this damage. It might not have washed completely off the paint and slowly ate away at it?

btw...the wheel cleaner really helps when you have the double spokes, but it's not worth it if it's causing this.

Judging from the spray pattern on the blemish, it doesn't look to be coming from the wheels/tires. It looks more like a splash pattern to me. Try the glaze like Astan mentioned or maybe a clay bar...

Yes it appears to be from a splash, and not something you put on your wheels.

I use a Wheel & Tire Cleaner.. It's supposed to be "NEW!" .. like it says on the bottle. You can spray it on both your wheels and your tires.. let soak for 30 seconds and rinse off. When you've got a BMW, you've got brake dust. Just try scrubbing all between all the spokes on my car.. The wheels cleaner is a savior. Spray on.. rinse off.. done. I use it on the tires too.. it cleans them very well.

I use 'LA totally awesome wheel cleaner' on my double spokes but it only gets rid of some of the brake dust (still need to try & squeeze a rag through spokes) - is there any product that dissolves brake dust completly (or very close)? I like my double spokes (*gasp*) but I am tempted to replace them because they are such a PITA to clean, there is nothing worse than a clean car w/dirty wheels...

I wouldn't even bother with double spokes...it is really easy to wash my contours. 3m has a glaze that works really well by the way. I used to get splash marks like that when I put armour all on my tires. Now, I apply it sparingly. And by the way, armour all, will eat away at your paint over time, so do you think that could be it?

hmmm.....Armour All. Last time after I washed the car I spayed on the Armour All tire blackener stuff and didn't wait for it to totally dry. I didn't think that stuff would permenately affect the paint if some flew off the wheels. That might be what it is.

It takes some time to eat away at it. I found this out on my SE-R. Same type of markings also. If I find a picture I will send it to you. Also if you read the bottle, it says something like don't let it touch any painted surfaces. If you think about it, it is designed to be absorbed into your plastic/rubber/vinyl. So when it gets on paint it is probably digging in as well, and that is the result.

You can use it on your tires without ill effects, but use a sponge to put it on, and wait for it to soak in before you drive

I don't treat my tires very often, but a popular detailer told me tires are not supposed to look really shiny, just black. He told me to use any motor oil with a sponge once or twice and I won't need to treat them very often. This works and I now treat them maybe every fifth or sixth washing.
