    Tell me More about ESP

Im gettin an e36 Convertible next week.

It has the ESP or DSC button near the gears. Cant remember the right abbrev.

I know its some sort of traction control, but am not aware of how it works in practice. My bimmer isnt the M3. Couldnt make it that far for the moment

Can anyone tell me more about this... what does it do, how and so on....

Well, If the ESP is the same as on an Audi, (my dad has an Audi with that.) Then it stands for Electronic Skid Protection, or Program. On our car, when its turned on, it acts as a traction control, taking power from the slipping wheel and transfering it to another wheel with traction. Also, when you turn hard, or just slip as you turn, it applies the ABS on either wheel, to reduce "fish tailing", so you dont skid out of control. It is quite effective on our car. It helps if you need to turn hard to avoid hitting something in the road, like if you turn left, then right, quickly, it will keep your car straight, and in control. Oh and I belive that DSC stands for; Dynamic Skid Control

I think it is a nice option, when your driving on slippery roads.

Too bad you can't get an M3 E36..;-) Austin

You should have ASC - Active Stability Control - I believe.

The ASC in your car is advanced ABS essentially that cuts throttle in traction loss situations. I'm not sure exactly how it works - its a combo of closing the intake/throttle and applying brakes I believe.

Turn it off every time you get in the car - its much more fun.
