On my list too as I want to replace the shelf with a custom shelf supporting two 10inch Infinity Kappa VQ subs and also a pair of 6X9 on each end. Don't bother with putting subs in the back, you loose all the low end due to the fact that these cars are built so well.

Hope someone knows how to remove the shelf.

You don't need the rear speakers. I was worried about rear passengers but the few times they have been back there, it was a non-issue.

Just take out the rear speakers and you will be fine.

ok... enough of the band-aid solutions.

BWM has issued a service bulletin regarding the subwoofer causing rattling noise on the rear deck (shelf).

              The details are here:

there are a couple of problems with that service bulletin.. a) we don't have a rear deck vent and b)we don't have E46's... we know what the rattling is but i don't know if this will solve the same solution.. there might be a bolt or something back there that came loose.. thats why we need to know how to remove the deck in order to fix it properly.. they have a good idea.. but i need more..

So, if all the above are band-aid solutions, is yours a tourniquet solution?

BTW.. did you bother reading the SIB at all? This is for an E46.

Are you talking about the rear deck lid (trunk lid), or the package tray in the back that holds the speakers?

I'm talking about the actual rear deck lid.. When I'm thumpin it shakes.. I know its the rear deck lid because I shoved some sox up under it and it stopped. =)

Still dont know how to take it out or resolve this problem without sox hanging down from my trunk.
