Weird wax-burning smell...

Hi All,



I recently purchased a 1997 M3 with 60K miles on it. I am smelling a weird wax-burning smell from the engine bay - this just started. I opened the front hood, but dud not spot anything. I had my friend look at it and he concurred that it wasn't clutch or brake buring smell either.

Would anyone happen to have any ideas of what it might be? Should I be overly concerned and rush the car to a BMW dealership? Also, if anyone knows good/trusted BMW shops/mechanics in Fort Lauderdale/Coral Springs area, references will be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that they detailed the engine bay and hosed it down with rubber dressing (like TireWet, or some other clear silicone) and it's burning off the exhaust. Mine does it when I detail it.



I've dealt with Braman BMW/Porsche in West Palm, and they've always treated me right. They're on Okeechobee-- don't know if that's too far for ya.
