    Fan Delete..UUC underdrive pulley install

    Finished these today. My impression?

Took longer than expected as i was drinking heavily, and decided to double up on my Vicadin today..jk

Wasnt really difficult. I opted to not change out the Alt pulley as it doesnt make a difference. I didnt have a Fan nut removal tool handy so i improvised a removal method. Drill a hole into the fan pulley, stick a screwdriver in it, and wedge it to the engine. Then unscrew 32mm nut..easy as pie.

I noticed upon startup, a slightly more rev happy engine, as it seemed to spool up faster. Getting it out on the road, it felt a bit more peppy...but not a huge difference. All in all though i did like the slight improvement, and with my CAI, and new Magnaflow cat back exhaust, i think things are getting funner.

    Next on the list...

    Lighter wheels

    Conforti Chip

    Euro HFM

go take the car apart again... replace the alt pulley... sorry to say but damn.. the stock on is so so so so so much heavier... pulley loss of weight helps as much and size reduction... or so i think..

everything depends on where the weight is placed.. but in most circumstances, the placement is on the outside.. therefore the new pulley would be much better. i need to get on this stuff.. im really behind.. need to get the FDK and pulleys.. argh.. i need money!

Actually the mass on the alt pulley isnt as important as its not underdriven, the actual mass of the UCC vs stock pulleys isnt much difference, its the diameter of the pulleys that make the difference.--

Anyways on a side note, i didnt bleed all the air out of my system and today it overheated a bit. I went an ran the heater controls to HOT and bled the little screw on top of the coolant bottle. Some air came out, and my heater went hot, and the temp needle dropped down. I followed the BMW appropriate filling procedure but i guess some was still in there. Gonna drive it and see if it raises again.

UUC pulleys do not underdrive the alternator pulley. It is the same size. the only thing different about the alternator pulley is that the UUC one is lighter. That's why i got the UUC pulleys because i didn't want to underdrive the alternator cause of the subs. I'd put the alternator pulley on.

i know i know.. when you feel the water pump and the power steering pullies the weight seems to be the same between uuc and stock... that is NOT the case with alt pulley.. trust me.. or ask dug.. he was there when i pulled that alt pulley out.. it is at least 5 times heavier... i'd say 7-8 but i didn't weigh them...

Your right it is heavier, my post was comparing the underdrive pulleys to stock. They are very close to same weights. The alt pulley may be heavier, but as it is mass centralized, the centrifugal weight is close to the axis of rotation. The alt pulley being not underdriven and so small in circumference will not show any real difference to your engine. They usually offer the alt pulley to match the rest of the pulleys in appearance. While doing so, they machine the pulleys out of the same stock materials as the other pulleys, and therefore do get a lighter part, but the net results are marginal. Thats why most ppl opt to not change out that troublesome pulley, as its hard to remove the stock nut.
