    Aluminum Driveshaft

Anyone put one of these on? I have the opportunity to buy one for a good price that was never installed on a friends car. It weighs 22lbs - not sure what the stock one weighs, but if it's lighter I would imagine it would be somewhat on the same lines as a lighter flywheel - reducing weight from the driveline??? Any info or opinions would be appreciated.

yeah, it would have an effect similar to that. But find out if it will be strong enough. I have heard and seen many a guy who bought a lighter driveshaft only to have it break on him.

I will check into that. I'm going to stay NA for a while so I would expect it to hold up until a supercharger or turbo kit goes on. Then I might have to watch it.

If I only had a bottomless bank roll.

The factory driveshaft is already made out of aluminum.

And this is what happens when you have high horsepower high torque turbo M3 and go drag racing.

Your only option is a CF material. ACPT makes one but its well over $1100.00

Yeah you have to call them for that. They told me they do have an application for the E36 models but not sure for the 3.2L M3.

So its not worth the 200 I can pick it up for ???

Do you know the weight of the stock one - this weighs in at 22 lbs.

if it was lighter than the original, then your car would be that much lighter, (obviously hugh)but I really don't think that the rotating mass difference would be enough to feel. All of the weight on a driveshaft is within 2-3 inches of center, unlike a flywheel where the weight is much further off center. I'm sure if you spent $1100 on a carbon fiber driveshaft, you might think you felt a difference, but come on, wouldn't you rather go to Vegas for a long weekend with that dough?
