    DDE + Dinan CAI

Is there anyone who makes a aftermarket angel eye/DDE kit that is compatible with a Dinan CAI? I have already talked to umnitza and he said that people have done this, but they have had to modify the Dinan snorkel. I called up my local Dinan dealer and he said that he wouldn't do it. The stock E36 lighting, as we all know is worthless and I have a hankering to upgrade. Suggestions?

    TIA

Supposedly if you don't use the DINAN bracket, and trim a tab on the headlights, then you can do it.

    Everything will work just fine.

I have a Dinan style intake and it had this big@ss bracket that I had to cut up. I also had to trim some of the pieces off the ellipsoids I used to make it fit. It was still super tight, but it worked out.

It adds about an hour or two of extra effort if you don't know what you're doing like me. I actually broke my ellipsoids on my first attempt to install them because I didn't know about the not fitting problem.

where is the bracket that you're talking about?

It sits between the actual intake tube and the filter. It is used to mount the intake to your car.

I think my design is slightly different than dinans...but the theory is the same. I had to chop off the right part so my low beam projector would clear. I gotta tell you, it was quite the hack job, but it worked.

Carbonio sent me a different mounting bracket to use if I wanted, but I just hacked up my old one instead.

By the way, I forgot to address a key point. The DDE doesn't conflict with your CAI, it's the new headlight assemblies that don't fit. You can't put DDE in the stock headlights, so you have to get the new euro housings in the first place. Once those fit, you can DDE or HID yourself to death. I have HID's in my Bosch housings. Actually...HID's might stick a little further out the back then normal halogens, but I'm not sure, but the real problem is going to be the assemblies themselves.

I was aware that the housing was the problem. I was going to try to get the whole thing in one fell swoop, rather than piecemealing my way through the process. Gotta figure something out, the headlights are just atrocious!

Hey man, I was in your exact position, but I didn't know that the housings wouldn't fit. So, you're one up on me.

It'll work with a little effort. Go take a picture down into your car that shows your dinan filter, the intake, and the backs of the US headlights. Maybe I can offer some kind of advice.

I'm not sure what kind of mounting bracket Dinan uses. There are some threads on this on bimmerforums too. I ran a few searches, but they really weren't incredibly helpful.

This is sort of a trial and error process. Try to fit lights (gentally) and then cut off what makes them get stuck.

Leave plenty of time! I started my install at like 4PM and apparently that wasn't enough if something goes wrong.

This weekend, I'll PM some pics of the setup. The only reason I know about this is because I called umnitza and he told me about it. My thinking is that if major modification is required, then I'll pass, but if it will only be an adjustment that won't affect performance/sound, then I'm all for it. I am hesitant to do this myself only because I don't know anything about the lighting system. My car has to go in for new shocks anyway, so maybe I'll have my mechanic try something out.

contact SGM3 - he posted some great pics on DTMpower.net describing it.
