Whaty have I done?

I did something really stupid. Checked my oil last night and saw that it was around 1/2 qt low. I grabbed what I thought was 10-40 mobile 1, that's what's in it. Anyway I killed what was left in the bottle and tossed it into the garbage, checked the level 10 minutes later and it looked good. This morning as I was taking out the garbage, I noticed an empty bottle of Mobile 1 10w-30. I must have mushed out and put 10w-30 in my car. I didn't drive it today, thought I'd ask some experts (YOU) how big a deal this is. There is around 1/2 qt of 10w-30 swimming around in my engine, along with the balance of 10-40.



should I change it ASAP, not drive it at all, not worry about it?

Though you're not supposed to mix different weights of oil, I've known many people who dump in whatever they have, regardless of brand, weight, etc. Granted, their cars were total beaters, but the engines didn't grenade. I wouldn't recommend that, but I'd be more worried if you were mixing Mobil One with regular dino oil.



Though you'll probably want to do a change in the near future, you're not going to destroy your car or do damage with what you've done.

Your car is completely fine. Some people even mix oils like that to get the exact weight that they want (very anal people). Don't worry about it.

Hey easy there.... I mix my 5-30 and 15-50 Mobil 1 in equal parts to give me 10-40 (Mobil doesn't sell that one). Does that make me anal?



It's perfectly alright to do that, but you should use same brand to get accurate weight... not that a few points either way makes any difference.
