e36 better than e46?

It seems that most of you think the e36 is a better car than the e46. What makes this so?? Just curious. Mark

its kinda like how the e30 guys think they are better than the e36 guys as they think they are better than the e46 guys and the e46 guys will think they are better than the e90 guys ?!?!? lol

The answer to your question though nussie is "it's not better" because "better" is a subjective measure that can't be applied universally to these (or any) two cars.



What's better, an apple or an orange? There's no correct answer. Unless you can quantify the measure, it's not a valid measurement.



Having said this, each car is most certainly better at some things than the other, whether it's "better" for you depends on how these factors stack up.



For me price/performance is the biggest factor. No doubt about it (with the Euro at least) the e36 is the "better" car, dollar for dollar it's a much better performer than the e46 (and yes, so is an Evo for example).



For others price isn't a factor so my measure is invalid for them. Their first measure might be prestige/performance or comfort/performance or looks/performance (performance being the common theme... but only because there are probably not too many M3 owners that don't are about performance).



Which is better? The e36 M3 is the better car for me. Doesn't mean I don't want an e46 M3 with a passion... :thumbsup:

One of the biggest reasons I like the E36 M3 more so than the E46 M3 is because of their appearances. IMHO, the E46 3-Series all look like Volkswagens.. The E36 has much sleeker lines.



Another factor is the engine. I have heard so many horror stories regarding the E46 M3 engine. A friend of mine is a BMW mechanic for a local dealership, even he agrees that the E36 M3 engine is less problematic than the E46.



Once Mr. Conforti releases his highly acclaimed supercharger unit, my E36 M3 will most definitely be much faster than an E46.

Their differen't cars.



you can't compair them. but for the same money issues like new CAI, cams, exhuast, and other parts. The parts for the E36 is cheaper.

they are completely different body styles.. different engines.. different trannies.. wheels.. interiors... electronics.. hp... torque.. everything.. they are both M's.. thats about the only thing that is the same.. oh and they are made by bmw's.. if you ask alot of racers, they prefer the E36 due to its rigidity and feel the E46 is more of a luxury car.. but as the rest said.. thats what alot of the E30 guys feel about the E36..
