Hi, ive been having this engine noise from the vanos area which im sure everyone has heard of. The past year ive heard a million and one reasons what the problem is but no one has come up with the Actual solution. I changed the vanos, tried all kinds of oil and nothing helps. The dealer keeps telling me its normal for the motor to sound like that (I said to him its normal for a M3 to sound like ****). Anyway anyone find the problem and solution. Thanks again and sorry to be a pain in the ass. 1996 M3 (no sunroof) 120,000 miles

put alittle extra oil in the engine.. just alittle bit more.. let it idle alittle and it should coat the valves and retainers enough that it should dump the noise... don't put too much in the engine though as it increases pressure etc.. and too much is not good either.. mine makes a slight tick sound too.. its just the nature of the beast..
