hey guys i will soon me a 97 m3 owner and im looknig at cold air intakes and performance chips...they have all kinds of them on ebay i dont no if you guys have seen them but ill put a couple of links and you can tell me what you guys think. i see the dinan and other name brand intakes adn chips gonig for more than 300 american and these intakes and chips are all under 50 dollars..wuts up with that ? do u thik they aCUTALLY work or will they decrease performance because the orginial bmw intake or chip is better?

p.s how come most of the intakes on ebay have short pipe and whats the difference between the long pipe and the short one

ya a bit slow today.



first off, never buy a critical part for your car on ebay!!! people are always selling crappy parts, and bmw's tend to be pretty finicky when it comes to cheap parts.



i would buy a Conforti Shark Injector, they run about $350. the best/only way to go for a "standard" chip for the bimmer. it plugs into the diagnostic port, and flashes the new software into the car. Or you could get an Active Autowerke chip, it's a bit more custom than the shark injector, and is burned into your ecu. they are a bit more, but the power gains are more as well. DONT EXPECT A BIG POWER JUMP WITH A CHIP ON AN OBD2 BMW!!!!!!! 20hp is MAXIMUM you will ever see, and that isnt peak, just max gain at a given rpm. PEAK gain is only a handful, about 5 is the MOST you will see peak.



as for intakes, as long as it has a K&N filter, you are good to go. there are 3 styles of cold air intakes, 1) short ram air, like the ebay auction you posted. stay away from, just pulls in hot air. 2) short ram air, with heat shield. very good. Conforti makes a great one, as well as ECIS, Active Autowerke, PAR. 3) long tube, in bumper style. this is what i have. made by BenFer. just as effective as the short/heatshield. but the filter element sits inside the bumper, behind the foglight, to **** in the coldest air.

as for the chip.. buy something tested and proven.. shark injector or AA.. those are the top.. shark is easiest to program.. and as M said . AA gets more power.. for the intake.. anything will work that allows cold air to get into the engine.. just look for a used intake or a benfer or something.. i got the conforti but i don't know if its the most cost efficient way.. but it does work well and looks great

ok so i shouldnt evne risk using those cheap parts...i thought something was wierd about them... i new there werent going to be as good as dinan or shark injector but i thought they might at least be ok for 40 dollars haha
