Help me remove my rear spring!!!!

    hey all

i'm doing the big coilover install this weekend, and got the front done, and am starting to tackle the rear.

the shock removal was simple, via the instructions in the bentley, but i cannot figure out how to remove the rear shock!!!

just wondering if any of you know the easiest way to remove the rear spring.

the bentley says to remove the rear drive axle, but that seems like it wouldnt change anything because the axle doesnt interfeer with anything.

    thanks for your help.

    Brent

you don't need the spring compressor. Just push down/bounce on the rotor hub until you can just yank the spring out. I've also used a pry bar on the trailing arm to get enough room to get the spring out.

Use a pry bar on the bottom of the spring "seat" (for lack of a better word). Use the pry bar from the rear side of the axle as you get more travel from that side, and pull it out with your other hand. If that makes any sense.

haha, as you can tell, the spring compressor didnt do much, considering i cant compress it any farther, and the spring still isnt out.

you saying use the crowbar here?

Yeah, and then put another one up where the top of the spring compressor is. If you can get an extra set of hands to pull the spring out, it would be even easier.

when the car is jacked up and the tire off, have one person push down on the rotor with their foot in a bouncing motion and the other can just pull the spring out. have the jack under the rear jack point of course and the rear shock removed for increased travel. presto, it's free.

And get the spring compressor OFF FIRST! I would not want to be there when you lower the spring mount with only 1 spring compressor on the spring!

Don't forget to release the parking brake! I've made that mistake before.

Heh, when returned my suspension back to stock, I just had a buddy of mine litteraly hang on the rotor to pull the trailing arm down far enough for me to swap the springs. Didn't have to unblot anything on the suspension except for the shock, which was being replaced anyways, so it was out.

Just be ABSOUTLY sure you seat the spring in correctly. I have heard stories about people not steating the springs in the rear correcty, and around 45 mph the car starts to wander uncontrolably all over the road.
