Well if you live in Europe, you can search for a motor or a wrecked M3 at:

    http://www.uk.mobile.de/

look in Germany and have the "show accident cars" option selected.

If you live in the U.S. check with customs on how to import.

    Good luck hunting.

RR - too much maintainance on the euro motor.. just get the AA stage one Turbo setup for ur car and be done with it.. the price on the stage one is falling rapidly (not as rapid as id like though)

The euro only requires valve adjustments, around 15k mile intervals. I'd rather have the euro but it depends what you want to do with the car. After driving my friends stg 2.5 AA, i would not want to track it.

sg m3, can you tell me more about the valve adjustments at 15K miles intervals?

how do i know when i need it and what needs to be done by the garage?

          thanks.

I'd go NA Euro over the stage 2 FI anyday - Esp. if you're tracking the car.

According to the handbook this should be done at every inspection 2. This is required as the lifters are solid due to the high revs this engine was designed for and have no automated way of adjustment as with a hydraulics. I have been told that BMW orders the shims to suit and don’t keep them as a stock part.

There is a bit of a debate in the UK about this as some people / BMW garages / independents recommend that these are also done at inspection 1.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

WD Pro, thanks for sharing the information. I will try to investigate this with my garage during the next oil change. More info would be great on this, i am in HK, so i have to translate everything into chinese when i request it with the garage. sometimes the translations local garages use at incredibly weird. Btw, what is a shims?
