    chander help

alright... I have a question: I bought a CD changer ending in part #404 from a guy on this board (andrew). Was told it would fit my mom's e46 M3. since I'm having trouble finding an e36 that is what I want I figured I would throw it in my mom's... doesn't fit (as far as I can tell). What am I doing wrong? Pulled back the carpet on the passenger side trunk and found two plugs (neither fit??, not even close). Am I looking at the wrong plugs? Anyone have pics of what it should look like? It could be a LONG time before I find what I want at a reasonable price, so I picked up a little 4x4 tacoma in the meantime... Really would like to take care of this changer for mom though.

I know I should ask this in the e46 forum, and did... but they don't respond in there.

I am a little confused with what you mean but you may just need an adapter. I needed two adapters to get my Alpine changer to fit my M. The adapter took those two little wires and combined them into one output wire. Also the changer may not work if it was meant for an E36 and it being put on an E46 with DSP.

It is a factory BMW changer, so I am wondering if it just doesn't fit... Making sure that I am looking in the correct location for the wires (passenger side rear trunk area.) Today would be a good day to do it, we traded cars for the day and it would be nice to have it in there when I return it.

I think the same BMW changer will work from a 96 all the way through current BMW's. Maybe the plugs you pulled out are for something else? I am not sure where the plugs are on an E46 but if the changer was from a later year E36 and looks like the one in the link below, then it should work fine in your moms car.

I sold you the CD Changer from my m3. Anyways, I'm sorry your having trouble, but I think it is suppose to be the drivers side.

If the changer is from his 1996 M3, then it should work in your car.

There were two changers that came with the BMWs for a while - one made by Alpine and the other by Pioneer (or maybe Kenwood?). Is it possible that there are different wiring configurations for each model? My 98 came with the Alpine changer and is mounted on the passenger side. Hope that helps.

They switched when the cars went to OBDII for the 96 model year.
