Are these wheels gonna to fit?

Board, please I would appreciate some input before I drop big bucks (Euros)

    My questions are:

    1. has anyone tried fitting the following size wheels/tires combo on their vehicle.

Front, 225/45/18x8.0J if my math is correct that's 25.97" diameter

    Rear, 255/40/18x9.0J 26.03" diameter

(incidentally, the above are the exact size for the stock E46 M3).

    Now, if we assume that stock E36 M3 came with 225/45/17Front and 245/40/17Rear, that's 24.97"/24.71" (front/rear).

    2. This represents a +3.85%/+5.05% increase in tire diameter. Will this screw up your tach/speedometer readouts? (there's a rule of thumb that says that if you stay within +/-5.0% you're OK).

    3. Does you contact patch increase with the larger wheel? What's the impact performance wise? (help from the racers  greatly appreciated)

Do you know what the offset on the wheels is? This is an important number in terms of fit. I'm guessing those will not fit but I don't know for sure.

Tire patch: That change in diameter will make a very small difference in tire patch. I think tire pressure will make a bigger difference.

Rotating mass: Depending on your wheels, you are likely to increase the rotional inertia of your wheels/tires. That has detrimental effects in almost every way (more mass to brake, more mass to accel, more unsprung weight).

With the way my rims are now, see pic below, I was forced to use

225/40 r18s all around. This being because my rims are 9 across, and they stick out some. I prob could have barley fit 235/35 R18's on the back, however there would have been less than 1mm of space between the tire and the 1/4. Anything wider will rub.

        Thanks for your inputs.

M3Trav, the offset is 35mm. Who knows if they will fit. I guess the only way to find out is to go to the wheel store and try them on. But even if they fit, they may screw up the ride. :???:

Dark Sirius, one way to make 'em fit is to roll the fender lip. But I dont know if you're willing to go that way.

          hi,

Just for reference, i have 225/40/18 on the front and 255/35/18 on the rear without any problems. i think having the right offset will be very important.
