yeah, you're playing a whole new ball game when the stage is changed. You'll have to consider tweeter timing on the crossover as well.

might as well go for some nice headphones....how about some sennheiser orpheus HE-HEV90... :rockband:

Well, I was attempting to share some insight....what exactly is it that you both are trying to achieve?

Out of the three speakers mentioned, I would buy: Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1.

That being said, I would at least listen to Boston Acoustics or Dynaudio. Best imaging and clarity without the harsh fatiging feeling you get after listening to some speakers (briefly owned a set of MB Quart's) for any extended period of time. I have owned a set of each of the speakers here and my money is on the Dynaudio 220 Mark II components. Two years later, no regrets whatsoever. They are flawless. Best audio related decsion I ever made.

Sorry about the change of topics mid-thread. I'm interested in what you're all saying about speakers and amps.

For all out performance, I hear focals, ads, and dynaudio are the way to go..personally they are probably out of my price range, and I found a pretty good deal on the MB Quart's.

For the amp, my Xtant 403a was an impulse buy...it is heavier than I thought, much bigger than i thought (ok, I'll admit i didn't get size specs before I bought the amp from someone), and doesn't fit in my trunk well because of it's long rectangular shape.

I originally wanted to half-a$$ my installation at first until i had more cash saved up. Now it's time to replace the 3 channel amp for a 5 channel amp and buy new rear speakers. I'm was wondering what amps you'd recommend, first being cost (<$750 if possible), second being weight/size/fit in my trunk, and third being power (I'm only running mid-grade MB Quarts and a 10" sub right now)....

Does anyone know what the mounting depth is for the speaker in the kick panel of a 99 M3 vert? :???:

Your Xtant is actually a really nice amp. If I understand correctly, you want to get rid of it, as opposed to getting another 2 channel amp, and get a 5 channel amp. There may be some new ones on the market but I only know of Alpine, Kenwood, and I think, DEI. A/D/S makes a 50 X 6, but that is for prologic applications. The alpine IIRC only has 200 W in the sub section and is not 2 ohm stable, the Kenwood Excelon might have 2 ohm stability that would give you more than 200 watts RMS. Both of these are more expensive than the MTX mentioned above and not as powerful - although you get variable crossover points which is desirable. Check Soundomain.com or audio-n-more for specs and specific models.

For rear speakers you can go with 6 x 9's and the scorpion adaptors that are made for M3's. They limit the effectiveness of the 6 x 9's because of their configuration but are the only ready-made adapters I am aware of. I use them. Scorpion also makes an 8" adapter that can be modified to use a 6.5" component mid-bass driver and you can mount the tweet on the deck, I did not do this because too much rear fill will screw up your front stage imaging.

MBQuart makes a decent 2 way 6 x 9 and you don't get that MBQuart tweet harshness because of the rear mounting and high frequency 'beaming". You can find them on Ebay for about 65$.

You should have no problem getting both the amp and the rear speakers for less than 500$ on the internet.
