    detecting forged wheels

Anyone know how to differentiate between the regular 10 spokes and the forged ons? Anyone have them?

10 spokes were never forged. Only the ltw split 5 spokes were forged. My sig is the ltw's.

I found a link here on the weight diff's between the two. Really not a whole lot of a difference...like 2.3 lbs. IMO the 10 spokes look better, albeit a tad heavier, the difference could easily be made up with lighter tires, and you'd have the equivelant weights.

The weight isn't the major difference, its that they are forged.

Exactly, lighter is great (2.3# is like 15%) but the STRENGTH is waht's needed here in NY-the worst roads in N. of the border.

Anyone else been through lots of rims in NY(detroit comes in 2nd place)?

Those weight numbers for LTW wheels on that site are suspicious, I do believe that The numbers I've seen elsewhere were about 17.5 lbs. for the forged 17x7.5

FYI, the wheel weights for the forged M3 are not that light. I remember weighing my friends LTW in Germany, and his fronts where if my conversion is correct, 19.5lbs, and rear 20lbs. You need to go with SSR's to go that light. ***I found a site that corroborates the mass here http://www.geocities.com/odortiz/. Maybe someone on here can weight their LTW's?? Getting your hands on some of these wheels is pretty difficult and you can expect to pay easily $1300 for em.

LTW's rock! :rockband: I've never weighed mine but from what i hear they should weigh around 19 or 20 lbs.

The answer is here: http://www.eurospeed.org/e36m3faq.pdf

Scroll down and look in section #5 . (OEM pics and specs.)

Every E36 M3 owner should have a copy of this on their hard drive. It answers dozens of technical questions. It’s a very valuable “must have” resource. eace:
