lol, i dont plan on autocrossing or anything..but i drove my boss's m3 lux pkg and thought the seats were comfortable, so i dont think its a big factor for me. maybe it will keep me from driving too aggressive ;-)

do you think offering 17k is too low for this car? book values are: KBB - 16,8k NADA - 17,8k and Edmunds - 17,4k. but it does sound like its in pristine condition.

ALSO, i ran a carfax and it said that it was originally registered as a "fleet" vehicle, possibly for a company/corporation. is this anything i should be concerned about?? he said he is the 2nd owner and knew the first owner very well.

    thanks for all replies.

I don't think any offer is too low, what's the worse that could happen? You may even get a hell of a deal if he wants to unload it quik. Good luck on the car, you'll love it whatever you end up with  !

well we compromised and agreed in the middle. 18k. i was willing to pay a little over book since it was in near mint condition (few scratches on rims, light stain under mat on rear carpet, minor fading on some area of black trim along windows). paint is glossy and car drives very nicely.

going to have it taken by him to Vista BMW in Ft. Lauderdale for a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). what exactly do they perform/test? how much of a reassurance should this give me that things are ok?? (i believe they charge for 1 hour labor)

also, the car has 69k and still has orig clutch and waterpump. it has had the inpect II done though. should i worry about these items soon?? will the PPI help me determine whether these should be replaced?

clutch felt fine, no chatter or slipping. thanks for any info.

            Wicked:

Congrats!! She looks good. Price sounds fair, as long as the car needs nothing -- tires, pads, anything?

Re tint, I'm no expert but I thought there are two ways to do it, one which is relatively easy to reverse, and one that is not. Maybe someone on the board can pick me up here.

Re inspection, the inspection, they will take a look under the car, the engine, etc. They'll tell you about any obvious stuff, won't kill themselves.

And BTW, call me cynical, but I'd suggest not having the inspection done where the car has always been serviced -- otherwise they'd be admitting a mistake if they found something major. Since they just recently did the Inspection II.

Nice. Make sure you have a leak-down/compression test done to make sure everything in the motor is a-ok.

Weird, my car has the lux package and I don't have any of the wood trim.

Tint removal can be somewhat simple, I got lucky in my case... but you have to get the tint warm. I let mine sit in 90 degree weather and in direct sunlight for about three hours and all the tint came right off very easily. But some tint can be a pain. Try using a heatgun/hairdryer to heat up the tint and pull it off. Then use a razor blade and adheasive remover to get any missed glue....

thanks for the replies all. i will know in a matter of an hour or 2 if the inspection went ok. its a different dealership than he took it to, i thought about that as well. =) dont want to be using the same mechanic who has already been doing the work, pointless.

i believe the inspection will tell me how much brake life is remaining. the tires have about 6k on them. they are bridgestone potenzas, which he says arent quit as good as the michelin sports, but last a bit longer.

only thing i can think of that i may do immediately is the waterpump. i may attempt it myself, or have a local bmw guy do it as side work. not paying 90/hr labor rates for that.

keeping fingers crossed that the inspection goes alright, and i'll have the car this weekend! im so tired of driving this ford focus rental. lol, from 5.0 stang to focus to m3. what a difference!

yeah, a NY car? this car has never seen snow/salt. does your 97 have lux pkg w. all options? HK/6cd/power everything? glossy paint? new tires? have all records? no accidents at all? original paint?

i got it for 18k. but i really wanted it, and its all stock which is tough to find these days. i do think i paid a little over book (cant use kelley blue book) but when ya want something ya gotta be willing to ante up. edmunds and nada list this car at 17.4-17.8k so its no big deal to me. plus he is throwing in an extra 245 bridgestone tire and wiper blades. and got the front brakes done. so im happy. =)
