    Idle problem?

I'm having an idle problem. I've got 100,000 mi. I've had no problems. All of a sudden I try to start my car and the second RPM's get down to about 500 it just dies. It runs fine as long as I don't let it idle. I checked fault codes it gave me 08 (Mass Air) changed it and reset fault codes still have idle problem. Tested trottle position sensor, checks okay. Suspecting idle speed valve.

Any suggestions from those who very mechanical.

    Thanks

I have not made any mods at all. Purely stock.

Have you done any upgrades to the cars computer (shark injector..so on?) They have an update for the e36 for idle problems. You may want to check w/your local bmw dealership.

Perhaps the engine is flooded? Have you held the accelerator down to flush the engine?

hehe, that sounds like an excuse to do something illegal... I'll have to remember that one next time I'm pulled over!

it looks like you have a pretty good idea where to start (ICV).

also, 100k miles is about when you can expect your O2 sensor to go.

you might also want to check your plugs.

Have the dealer check for fault codes. Just because that check engine light hasnt come on doesnt mean there isnt a code in the system. You have 4 o2 sensors and they're expensive to replace all at once. The cars computer tells the tech which O2 sensor is going bad.
