does anyone know much about the m roadster? I was looking at a 98 m roadster. I didn't realize that it's a z3 with an m3 engine 3.2L! I can't seem to find any good z3 forums that talks about the m roadster. any input would be much appreciated.

Actually, the m-roadsters have a slightly smaller engine than the 3.2l M3 engine. They lack a tad bit of power. They are a fun ride though, quite comftorable, nible, and quick.

hmm, all pre-01 m roadsters used the s52 from the e36 m3. It was the same size and same power. The 01-02 s54 m roadster does have 315 hp vs 333hp for the e46.
My parents used to have a '99, it was a great car. A blast to drive.

According to the quite a few techs at work, the all the m-roadsters has a little less power than their bigger counterparts.Comment

m coupes and m roadsters actually dyno higher than e36 m3's. Less driveline loss.Comment

Nothing says underpowered like a car slightly bigger than a Miata with a S54 in it
. Personally I was shocked when I found out they put the S54 in it, seems like too much engine for too little suspension. Must be fun though.

i ve got this article from topgear magazine when they tested every M power vehicle from 1972 3.0 CSL to 2003 M3 E46 CSL. anyhowz heres what they said about the
"M Roadster - M-tweakened Z3 with a body structure stiffened in an attempt to cope with power borrowed from the M3, Has a tad too much understeer and is clearly slower and not as sharp as the M coupe."
personally i love the look of the M COUPE, its like a batmobile but shorter and with a M badge.
