Why are some lower grills black and others are body color?

Hey guys. The lower grill on my car is painted the same color as the rest of the car (it's a 95 dakar yellow). I'm just wondering why it seems like some m3's have it painted the body colors and others came with it black. I think on the dakar yellow a black lower grill might look better. How easy would it be to get one and install it?

I just replaced that lower mesh on my car yesterday. I'm not sure on the proper way of removing it, but the way I did it:

Removed the underpanelling (2 porkchops and middle bit). From under the car I could then reach the back of the mesh. It was fastened on with 8 little metal rings that are pushed onto plastic rods that protrude from the bumper. I'm guessing you're supposed to cut them off and then use new rings to fasten a new mesh on. However they're extremely hard and I couldn't cut them or grind them off. So I ended up prying them off, stripping a few of the rods in the process...but in the end the new one went on and is holding on fine. The part costs about 35 bucks.

Thanks. Hmm, now I'm wondering whether I'd really want to change it if it was only a 95 thing.

I have a '95 and it is black, and I have the original bumper, I think.... This makes me question it though.
