what does my m sound like a desiel??

When i first start my car it has a loud knocking sound.The knocking sound kind of drowns out after it starts to warm up, but it sounds like a damn desiel at idle...What's wrong??.. Also,when I really get on it in 2nd and 3rd gear it makes a "pinging" noise at about 3500 rpm's and up. What's wrong with my baby...."95 m3.

Might be a lifter not pumping up, i'd have it looked at. How many miles do you have? Is your oil level full?

I always make sure the oil level is full. I have 92,000 miles.
